How to Turn on the Ringer on iPhone

Using the Side Switch to Control the Ringer
One of the easiest ways to turn on the ringer on your iPhone is by using the side switch. The side switch is a physical button located on the left-hand side of your iPhone that allows you to control the ringer and silent mode.
To turn on the ringer using the side switch, make sure that the switch is not set to silent mode. You can tell if the switch is set to silent mode if you see an orange stripe on the switch. If the switch is set to silent mode, simply flip the switch up to turn off silent mode and turn on the ringer.
If the side switch is not set to silent mode and your iPhone is not ringing, you may need to check your ringer volume settings in the iPhone’s settings app. It’s also worth noting that not all iPhones have a side switch, so if you’re using a newer model, you’ll need to use a different method to turn on the ringer.
Adjusting Ringer Volume in Settings
If the side switch on your iPhone is not working or if your iPhone doesn’t have a side switch, you can still turn on the ringer by adjusting the ringer volume in the iPhone’s settings app.
To adjust the ringer volume, go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap on “Sounds & Haptics.” From there, you’ll see a section labeled “Ringer and Alerts” with a slider that allows you to adjust the volume of your ringer.
Move the slider to the right to increase the ringer volume or to the left to decrease the ringer volume. As you adjust the volume, your iPhone will play a sample of the current ringer sound to help you gauge the volume level.
Once you’ve set your desired ringer volume, exit the settings app and your iPhone should now ring when you receive a call or notification.
Customizing Ringer and Alert Sounds
If you’re looking to personalize your iPhone’s ringer and alert sounds, you can do so by customizing them in the iPhone’s settings app.
To customize your ringer and alert sounds, go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap on “Sounds & Haptics.” From there, you can choose from a variety of pre-installed ringtones and alert sounds or create your own custom sound.
To create a custom sound, tap on “Ringtone” or “Text Tone” and then tap on “New Tone” at the top of the screen. You can then choose to record a sound using your iPhone’s microphone or select an audio file from your iPhone’s music library.
Once you’ve created or selected your desired sound, give it a name and save it. You can then select your custom sound as your ringer or alert sound.
It’s worth noting that custom ringtones and alert sounds may not work for all types of notifications, such as those from third-party apps. Additionally, some carriers may restrict the use of custom ringtones for specific callers or numbers.
Troubleshooting Ringer Issues on iPhone
If you’re having issues with the ringer on your iPhone, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
First, check to make sure that your iPhone is not in silent mode. If the side switch is set to silent mode, flip the switch up to turn off silent mode and turn on the ringer.
If your iPhone is not in silent mode and the ringer is still not working, check your ringer volume settings in the iPhone’s settings app. Make sure that the ringer volume is turned up and that the “Change with Buttons” option is enabled.
If you’re still having issues with the ringer, try restarting your iPhone by holding down the power button until the “slide to power off” slider appears. Slide the slider to power off your iPhone, then press and hold the power button again to turn it back on.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your iPhone’s speaker or other components. In this case, it’s recommended that you contact Apple Support or visit an authorized repair center for further assistance.
Turning off Do Not Disturb and Other Settings
If your iPhone is not ringing, another potential issue could be that the “Do Not Disturb” setting is turned on. When “Do Not Disturb” is enabled, your iPhone will not ring or alert you to any notifications, even if your ringer volume is turned up.
To turn off “Do Not Disturb,” swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone’s screen to access the Control Center. Look for the crescent moon icon, which indicates that “Do Not Disturb” is enabled. Tap the icon to turn it off and allow your iPhone to ring again.
It’s also worth checking other settings that could be affecting your iPhone’s ringer, such as the “Silence Unknown Callers” feature. When this feature is enabled, your iPhone will not ring for calls from phone numbers that are not in your contacts list.
To check if this feature is enabled, go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap on “Phone.” Look for the “Silence Unknown Callers” option and make sure it is turned off if you want your iPhone to ring for all incoming calls.
By checking and adjusting these settings, you can ensure that your iPhone’s ringer is working properly and that you don’t miss any important calls or notifications.
