How to Double Space in Google Docs

Using the Line Spacing Tool

One of the easiest ways to double space in Google Docs is by using the Line Spacing tool. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open your document in Google Docs.
  2. Highlight the text you want to double space.
  3. Click on the “Line spacing” button in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  4. Select “2.0” from the drop-down menu. This will double the spacing between each line of text.
  5. If you want to adjust the spacing even further, you can select “Custom spacing” and enter your desired line spacing.

That’s it! Your selected text should now be double spaced. If you want to double space your entire document, you can use the same method but highlight all the text in the document before clicking on the Line spacing button.

Setting Custom Line Spacing

If you want to double space your text but don’t want to use the preset Line spacing options, you can set a custom line spacing value. Here’s how:

  1. Open your document in Google Docs.
  2. Highlight the text you want to double space or click “Select all” (Ctrl+A) to select the entire document.
  3. Click on the “Line spacing” button in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  4. Select “Custom spacing” from the drop-down menu.
  5. Enter your desired line spacing value in the box next to “Line spacing”. For double spacing, you should enter “2” (without quotes).
  6. Click “Apply” to apply the custom line spacing to your selected text.

That’s it! Your selected text should now be double spaced using your custom line spacing value. If you want to adjust the line spacing value later, simply repeat the steps above and enter a new value.

Double Spacing Selected Text

If you want to double space only a portion of your document, you can select the text you want to double space and apply the Line spacing or custom spacing settings to that text. Here’s how:

  1. Open your document in Google Docs.
  2. Highlight the text you want to double space.
  3. Click on the “Line spacing” button in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
  4. Select “2.0” from the drop-down menu to double space the selected text.
  5. If you want to use a custom line spacing value, select “Custom spacing” and enter your desired line spacing value.
  6. Click “Apply” to apply the line spacing settings to the selected text.

That’s it! The selected text should now be double spaced while the rest of the document remains single spaced. If you want to remove the double spacing from the selected text later, simply repeat the steps above and select “1.0” or “Single” from the Line spacing menu.
